Gas Leak Detection

If you have had the gas supply turned off due to a suspected leak, we use gas detection equipment to locate the source. We test all pipework, joints and connections to find the leak.

Gas Pipe Leak Repair

Once the leak is located we repair or replace the affected pipework. All gas pipe repairs are carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers and tested for gas tightness afterwards.

Appliance Gas Leak Check

Gas leak from a boiler, cooker, hob or gas fire. We test the appliance gas connections, internal pipework and gas valve to identify and repair the leak.

Gas Meter Leak Investigation

Leak at or near the gas meter. We check the meter connections, regulator and inlet pipework. If the leak is on the meter itself we advise on contacting your gas supplier.

Gas Tightness Testing

After any gas work we carry out a full gas tightness test on the pipework to verify there are no leaks. This is a legal requirement and essential for your safety.

Post-Leak Safety Inspection

After a gas leak has been repaired we carry out a full safety inspection of all gas appliances and pipework to ensure everything is safe before the gas supply is restored.

Gas Leak Investigation FAQs

Common questions about gas leak detection and repair

What should I do if I smell gas right now?

Call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999. Do not use electrical switches, lights, phones or naked flames. Open doors and windows. Evacuate the property if the smell is strong. Wait outside for the emergency service.

How do you find a gas leak?

We use electronic gas detectors that sense gas in the air, leak detection spray that bubbles at the leak point, and pressure testing with a manometer to confirm the system is leaking and verify it is sealed after repair.

What if the gas leak is underground or in a wall?

Leaks in concealed pipework are harder to locate but we use systematic testing to narrow down the leaking section. In some cases we may need to expose pipework or run new pipework to bypass the leaking section.

Can a small gas leak be dangerous?

Yes. Any gas leak is potentially dangerous. Even a small leak can lead to a build-up of gas over time. Carbon monoxide can also be produced by appliances burning incorrectly. All gas leaks should be investigated and repaired urgently.

How long does a gas leak investigation take?

A straightforward gas leak investigation takes approximately one hour. Complex leaks where the source is difficult to locate may take longer. We will keep you informed throughout the process.

Do I need a gas safety certificate after a leak is repaired?

We provide documentation of the work carried out and the gas tightness test results. If you need a full landlord gas safety certificate we can issue this as a separate service. The leak repair documentation is sufficient for safety records.
