Top Entry Immersion Heater
Standard immersion heater that fits into the top boss of a copper cylinder. The most common type found in UK homes. Available in 11 inch and 27 inch lengths for different cylinder sizes.
Side Entry Immersion Heater
Fitted into a side boss of the cylinder, usually lower down. Heats water from lower in the cylinder and is better for economy 7 setups where the whole cylinder needs heating overnight.
Dual Immersion Heater
Two elements in one unit, a short element for daytime top up heating and a long element for overnight economy 7 full cylinder heating. Gives flexible hot water from one fitting.
Titanium Immersion Heater
Corrosion resistant titanium element for hard water areas. Resists limescale build up and lasts significantly longer than standard copper sheathed elements.
Incoloy Immersion Heater
High grade alloy element designed for aggressive water conditions. Suitable for unvented cylinders and commercial applications where standard copper elements fail prematurely.
Economy 7 Immersion Setup
Installation of a lower immersion heater connected to the off peak electricity supply. Heats a full cylinder of water cheaply overnight ready for the following day.

Common questions about immersion heater installation
Why install an immersion heater if I already have a boiler?
An immersion heater provides a backup heat source if your boiler breaks down. It means you still have hot water for washing while waiting for a boiler repair. It is also useful in summer when you might not want to run the whole heating system.
What size immersion heater do I need?
For most domestic copper cylinders an 11 inch immersion heater in the top boss is standard. For economy 7 you need a 27 inch side entry immersion heater. We measure your cylinder and advise on the correct length.
Is it expensive to run an immersion heater?
An immersion heater costs more per unit of hot water than a gas boiler but it is an efficient way to heat water. For small amounts of hot water in summer it can work out cheaper than firing up the whole boiler system.
Can you add an immersion heater to an existing cylinder?
Most copper cylinders have a spare boss for an immersion heater. If yours does not have a boss we can discuss fitting a new cylinder with an immersion heater fitted. We cannot drill a new boss into an existing cylinder.
How long does immersion heater installation take?
A straightforward immersion heater installation into an existing boss takes about one to two hours including draining the cylinder, fitting the heater and refilling. It can be longer if the old heater is seized or the boss needs cleaning.
What is economy 7 and do I need a special immersion heater?
Economy 7 is an electricity tariff with cheaper rates overnight. You need a longer immersion heater fitted lower in the cylinder to heat the full cylinder overnight. We can install an economy 7 immersion heater and connect it to your off peak supply.
