Gas engineers must hold valid ACS qualifications and be Gas Safe registered. We verify all qualifications and registrations before you start working with us.
Do I need to be Gas Safe registered to apply?
If you plan to carry out any gas work, then yes, you must be Gas Safe registered with current and valid registration. If you only carry out plumbing work and do not touch gas appliances, Gas Safe registration is not required. However, having it opens up more work opportunities with us.
Is this a full time employed position?
No. We are looking for self employed plumbers and gas engineers. This means you work on a self employed basis, manage your own schedule, and are responsible for your own tax and National Insurance. In return you get flexibility, competitive rates, and a steady flow of work from a trusted local brand.
How much public liability insurance do I need?
You must hold your own public liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2 million. This is to protect you and our customers in the event of accidental damage or injury. We require a copy of your insurance certificate during the application process.
Do you carry out DBS checks?
Yes. Because you will be entering customers' homes and business premises, we carry out Basic DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks on all successful applicants. A clean criminal record is a requirement for working with National Plumbing. If you have any questions about this, please discuss them with us during your application.
Do I need my own tools and van?
Yes. As a self employed tradesperson you are expected to have your own professional tools and a reliable van or vehicle suitable for carrying plumbing and heating equipment and parts. Your vehicle should be clean, presentable, and appropriate for visiting customers' homes.
Which areas could I be covering?
We cover Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and North London. You need to live in or near one of these counties so you can reach jobs quickly. We try to match you with work as close to your home as possible so you spend less time driving and more time earning.
How quickly can I start work after applying?
Once your qualifications, Gas Safe registration, insurance, right to work documents, and DBS check are verified, and after a meeting with our team, you can start taking on jobs. The process typically takes 1 to 2 weeks depending on how quickly you provide your documents.
