Combi Boiler No Hot Water

Combi boiler providing heating but no hot water? Common causes include a faulty diverter valve, blocked plate heat exchanger or a failed flow sensor. We diagnose and repair combi boiler hot water faults.

Hot Water Cylinder Not Heating

No hot water from your cylinder? The motorised valve, cylinder thermostat or immersion heater may have failed. We diagnose the exact cause and repair it.

Intermittent Hot Water

Hot water runs hot then cold, or only works sometimes. Often a diverter valve sticking, a blocked heat exchanger or a faulty thermistor. We find and fix the cause.

Low Hot Water Pressure

Hot water flow is weak compared to cold water. Could be a scaled up heat exchanger, a blocked filter or a failing pump. We restore proper hot water flow.

Hot Water Too Hot or Not Hot Enough

Water temperature not reaching the set point or scalding hot. Usually a thermostat, thermistor or temperature sensor fault. We calibrate or replace the faulty component.

Hot Water Not Working After Power Cut

Power cut caused the boiler or controls to lose settings? We can reset and reconfigure your system and check for any damage from the power interruption.

No Hot Water Repair FAQs

Common questions about hot water not working and repairs

Why do I have heating but no hot water?

On a combi boiler this is almost always a faulty diverter valve that is stuck in the heating position and not switching to hot water. On a system boiler it could be a faulty motorised valve or cylinder thermostat.

What is a diverter valve and what does it do?

A diverter valve is a component inside a combi boiler that directs hot water either to your radiators or to your taps. When it fails, it can get stuck, preventing hot water or heating from working.

Why does my hot water go cold after a few minutes?

This is often caused by a blocked plate heat exchanger restricting the flow of hot water, or a faulty thermistor giving incorrect temperature readings to the boiler's control board.

Can a failed immersion heater cause no hot water?

Yes. If you have a hot water cylinder with an immersion heater and it fails, the cylinder will not heat up. This is separate from the boiler. We can replace faulty immersion heaters.

How long does a hot water repair take?

A diverter valve replacement typically takes 1 to 2 hours. A thermistor or sensor replacement is usually under 30 minutes. A plate heat exchanger replacement can take 2 to 3 hours.

Can I use my heating while the hot water is being repaired?

If the boiler works for heating but not hot water, you can usually continue to use the heating while waiting for the repair. The engineer will confirm this when they assess the fault.
